Who is this mentorship for?

Yoga teachers, personal trainers, therapists, and educators who advocate movement as a tool for mental health will find the program particularly useful. However, all are welcome. This program is designed for anyone interested in becoming proficient in musculoskeletal anatomy—but from a unique perspective. Rather than the typical presentation and memorization found in anatomy courses, the aim is to sense, feel, and embody.

Who is the instructor?

My name is Stacy Dockins, and I will be your instructor. I hold a Master's of Science-Kinesiology with concentrations in orthopedic rehabilitation, corrective exercise, and exercise psychology. I have been teaching yoga and mindfulness for 25 years and am the author of Embodied Posture: Your Unique Body and Yoga. Since 2005, My husband Dave and I have run Yoga Project School. We currently live in Denton, Texas.

What do you mean by embodiment?

When I refer to embodiment, I mean to experience the body from the inside out. While we often go through life thinking about our bodies, many of us have disconnected from navigating our inner landscapes. Embodiment requires sensing, feeling, curiosity, and allowance. It is a way of getting reacquainted with the innate wisdom that lives within. It opens the door for a new relationship with ourselves and others. There is a robust body of research involving the efficacy of embodiment/somatic/mindfulness practices as a tool for relief from anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.

What will be covered?

The bulk of the curriculum covers the separate and integrated components of the musculoskeletal system. Included topics are—upper extremities, lower extremities, the spine & core. We will also study the nervous system, the respiratory, and internal organ systems. While many other courses I teach involve movement concepts, this program focuses on gaining a solid structure and function foundation. The topics of embodiment and mindfulness and how they impact physiological and psychological health will be weaved throughout the program. Additionally, the content is partially guided by the interests and needs of the participants.

How is the program structured?

The program is broken into twelve modules. Each module includes:

  • There is a live zoom lecture once a month alternating between Sunday at 9 AM & 4 PM central time. Live attendance is not mandatory but suggested. I will present the topics for the month, and you will have time to ask questions. All sessions will be recorded for review and those not in attendance. These lectures are approximately 60-90 minutes.

  • Each month you will receive a pre-recorded movement session that guides you through the felt experience of the module content.

  • You will receive monthly guided meditation sessions with contemplation prompts for inhabiting your body.

  • In the course forum, there will be ongoing discussion and Q&A.

FAQ

  • Are the lectures pre-recorded or live?

We hold live lectures once a month. All previous live lectures are recorded and ready for review. Because the program is 12 months/modules long, everyone will not start at the same time. The live content will start over each year. Please let us know if you have questions.

  • Can I get continuing education credits for the course?

Yes. The course counts for 40-hours of continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance.

  • Why twelve months?

Anatomy takes time to learn. Holding the program over one year allows time for the most essential components of learning: spaciousness and repetition. My hope is to provide a framework that nurtures a lived experience of the curriculum.

  • Can I work at my own pace?

Yes, absolutely. While I strongly recommend attending the live Zoom sessions, I understand that this will not always fit your schedule. All live sessions will be pre-recorded for later viewing. The course is delivered over one year, but you can take longer to finish. You will have access to the content or 24 months.

  • What if I missed the start date? Can I still join the program?

Yes, absolutely. We welcome you to join in at any time. All missed sessions are there for you to review at your own pace.

  • My yoga teacher training included anatomy. Will this course still be useful for me?

100% yes. I am confident that this program will give you a different education. While our 200 hour and 300 hour training programs are heavy in anatomy, we have graduates that still desire a stronger foundational understanding. Anatomy takes much more time to learn than is possible during a yoga teacher training that includes many other topics. Additionally, the embodiment component of this program makes it entirely different from other anatomy courses.

  • I graduated from YP school of yoga, will this program benefit me?

100%, yes. This program was designed based on the observed needs and desires of our teacher training graduates. Rest assured, you will get an education that we did not have time to cover during your teacher training program. There is simply not enough time to include this in-depth content in our teacher training curriculum.

  • What is the cost of the program?
