Who is this mentorship for?

Yoga teachers, personal trainers, therapists, and educators who advocate movement as a tool for mental health will find the program particularly useful. However, all are welcome. This program is designed for anyone interested in becoming proficient in advanced anatomy and movement concepts—but from a unique perspective. Rather than the typical presentation and memorization found in anatomy courses, the aim is to sense, feel, and embody.

Who is the instructor?

My name is Stacy Dockins, and I will be your instructor. I hold a Master's of Science-Kinesiology with concentrations in orthopedic rehabilitation, corrective exercise, and exercise psychology. I have been teaching yoga and mindfulness for 25 years and am the author of Embodied Posture: Your Unique Body and Yoga. Since 2005, My husband Dave and I have run Yoga Project School. We currently live in Denton, Texas.

What do you mean by embodiment?

When I refer to embodiment, I mean to experience aliveness from the inside out. While we often think about our bodies, many of us have disconnected from navigating our inner landscapes. Embodiment requires sensing, feeling, curiosity, and allowance. It is a way of getting reacquainted with the innate wisdom that lives within. It opens the door for a new relationship with ourselves and others. There is a robust body of research involving the efficacy of embodiment/somatic/mindfulness practices to relieve anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.

What will be covered?

The bulk of the curriculum covers the separate and integrated components of the musculoskeletal system. Included topics are—the upper extremities, lower extremities, the spine & core. We will also touch on the nervous, respiratory, and digestive systems. While many other courses I teach involve movement concepts, this program focuses on gaining a solid structure and function foundation. The topics of embodiment and mindfulness and how they impact physiological and psychological health will be woven throughout the program. Additionally, the content is partially guided by the interests and needs of the participants. See above for the topics of modules 1-6.

How is the program structured?

The program is broken into twelve modules. Each module includes:

  • Each module has a pre-recorded live lecture. See the curriculum above. You can ask questions via discussion posts and Stacy will answer. The lectures are approximately 60-90 minutes.

  • While this course does not currently have live monthly lectures, Stacy will answer any questions posted in the discussion.

  • You will receive monthly guided meditation sessions with contemplation prompts for inhabiting your body.

  • In the course forum, there will be ongoing discussion and Q&A.

  • In addition to the anatomy content, there is a monthly embodiment-mental health topic of discussion. In your course, there is related scientific literature to review and discuss.

  • Monthly reviews of the anatomical content. Each module begins with a recorded review of where we've been and where we are going. This review builds each month and is a great way to increase your learning.

  • We use a multi-pedagogical approach to support various learning styles. We utilize visual, movement, discussion, and life-application tools to help learn anatomy.

  • Each module has a movement practice to wire in the concepts through experience.

  • You will be able to comment on and discuss topics with your peers in each lesson.

FAQ

  • Can I get continuing education credits for the course?

Yes. The course counts for 40-hours of continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance. Please contact us if you need this credit.

  • Can I work at my own pace?

Yes, absolutely. While we recommend attending the live Zoom sessions (this is where the magic happens), I understand that this will not always fit your schedule. All live sessions will be recorded for later viewing. The course is delivered over one year, but you can take longer to finish. You will have access to the content for 24 months.

  • Can I begin at any time?

Yes, absolutely. We welcome you to join in at any time. All lectures are pre-recorded live.

  • My yoga teacher training included anatomy. Will this course still be useful for me?

100% yes. I am confident that this program will give you a different education. The concepts included are advanced functional and anatomy movement. While our 200-hour and 300-hour training programs are heavy in anatomy, we have graduates who still desire a stronger foundational understanding. Anatomy takes much more time to learn than is possible during yoga teacher training which includes many other topics. Additionally, the embodiment component of this program makes it entirely different from other anatomy courses.

  • I graduated from YP school of yoga, will this program benefit me?

100%, yes. This program was designed based on the observed needs and desires of our teacher training graduates. While our 200-hr curriculum is strong in foundational anatomy, the concepts taught here are advanced. Rest assured, you will get an education that we did not have time to cover during your teacher training program. There is simply not enough time to include this in-depth content in our teacher training curriculum.

  • What is the cost of the program?
